| 内容記述 | Needless to say that Lady Augusta Gregory is a major prominent figure and patroness in the Irish Renaissance, her ‘literary salon’ makes a great contribution to establish both cultural and literary legacies. ‘Salon’has played a significant role in Europe for several centuries since the 16th century as s a specific and unique‘place’ for a variety of communication, an intellectual exchange of information and upbringing of talented figures in art and academic realms or politics. During the Augustan age（ 1880-1730）, which is the specific period of forming a public realm in Britain, several female writers begin to make their writings publicized. A prominent female figure of them is Lady Anne Finch, Countess of Winchilsea, who was highly praised by not only J. Swift, J. Dryden or A. Pope in the 18th century but also by Wordsworth, and considered as the forerunner of the Romantics in modern times. Consequently, she is highly regarded as a pre-Romantic poet and as a prominent poet of the first generation of women writers. This essay views modern aspects and distinguished characteristics of her poems, dealing with gender issues, which was very rare at that time. |
