| 内容記述 | "Problem,MythsandStories"（1999）is a revised lecture Doris Lessing read at the Institute for Cultural Research in London.Here Lessing argues that storytelling has persisted since the beginning of human history.She repeatedly stresses how the telling and retelling of stories enriches and enlightens our lives with a sense of peace and faith, because she worries about the decline of reading in modern England.The most interesting point of this paper is that Lessing relates her own reading experience, especially how a single book has changed her thinking and feeling and fulfilled her life.That book was The Sufis by Idries Shah, translated into English in 1964, and introduced to the United Kingdom.The book helped her recover her deep loss of faith in Western culture after the devastation of World War II and the rise of Communism.She had respected Shah as a reliable mentor as long as she lived. The main purpose of translating the paper into Japanese is to consider how Lessing's unique and useful ideas about myths and stories enlighten and educate Japanese youth who are dependent on IT and comics. |
