The study results showed that the positive experience of expanding one’s knowledge and interest by becoming a fan, as well as family and friends’ liking of anime and manga, are factors that promote liking of anime and manga characters. Contrarily, the positive experiences of vitality and interaction among fans, such as having fun as a result of becoming a fan, were shown to play a role in promoting the liking of real people and groups. These positive experiences were also promoted by friends’ liking of the real person or group in addition, empathic interest promoted vitality.
