 note = {P(論文), Lady Gregory created some historical plays which includes not only historical events recorded andrecognized as official history, but also legendary folk history. She attempts to describe famous historicalevents or deeds in terms of women’s points of view. This article shows how Lady Gregory creates a new typeof female image to symbolize Ireland, and examines her purpose of creating heroines which culturallyrepresent Ireland. Her heroines are not a stereo-typed weak females, depending upon or subject to a maledominant society. On the contrary, Lady Gregory tries to create an independent, strong heroine, who foretellsa modern new type of women of the modern era, as well as a new representation of Ireland.},
