Participants were divided into three groups based on SPS level: low, intermediate, or high SPS. The high SPS group was found to comprise approximately 17% of participants, supporting the validity of the highly sensitive person（ HSP） classification reported in previous research. Analysis of variance was conducted with SPS classification as the independent variable and help-seeking target and help-seeking style as dependent variables, revealing that scores for avoidant help-seeking toward family members were higher among the high SPS group than the low SPS group, while avoidant help-seeking scores toward friends were higher among the intermediate SPS group than the low SPS group. These results suggest that HSPs may be more likely to avoid seeking help from those they are close to, such as family members, and indicate a need for accommodations and support. Moreover, the results of the present study conflict with past findings suggesting that HSPs may be more open to help-seeking from informal helpers such as family and friends. The results of the present study further suggest that it may be useful to investigate the relationship between SPS and a wider range of help-seeking methods such as social media, which have recently been shown to be effective support resources.
